The
SMT PIGGY-BACK ECU has been designed to answer the question how
is my car going to get tuned?
The
SMT 'piggyback' ECU is designed to correct fueling and timing. This
is a wire in unit that can be sent to meet the needs of your car.
The SMT is simple to install, (must be soldered in) and includes
wiring diagrams, and installation instructions. The SMT can be programmed
by you using the 'tuning cable'.
This
is one of the best piggyback systems on the market today. It has
more options than other systems, including its capable of controlling
more newer engines, engines with multicoil ignition setups, and
has new tuning features like temperature modifications and O2 sensor
programing.
SMT-i
Kit - includes Fuel/Ignition tuning, comm cable, wiring harness,
bypass connector and additional injection control.
Additional
Functions are - RPM/TPS/LOAD/Etemp activated switch, Dual Mapping

WHAT IS THE SMT UNIT?
WHO
MAKES THE SMT?
A company that specializes in engine management systems located in South
Africa Digital Data Systems (DDS). All
products made by DDS are marketed by Digital Technology (a subsidiary
of DDS). Perfect Power is the brand name of the automotive products manufactured
by DDS but marketed by Digital Technology.
WHAT
MAKES THE SMT SPECIAL?
The SMT has the ability to intercept certain signals going or coming from
the car's facotry fitted ECU, allowing you to modify them so you can have
control over the engine parameters.
WHAT
CAN THE SMT DO FOR ME?
Right out of the box it can control Fuel AND Ignition Timing on almost
ALL fuel injected engines today. Other options include additional injector
control, activation switch (Nitrous, Vtec, Vvti, etc.), O2 sensor metering
and tuning, temperature compensation (allowing for better cold start after
tuning), etc.
HOW
DO YOU PROGRAM THE SMT?
The main tool for tuning the SMT is with a laptop and specific tuning
software.
WHAT
BENEFITS DO I GET FROM THE SMT UNIT THAT I CANT GET FROM OTHER SIMILAR
SYSTEMS?
The SMT's software is designed to give you far better resolution (tuning
points) than most piggyback systems in the market, adjustments are precise
and straight forward, and the results speak for themselves.
WHAT
CARS CAN THE SMT BE INSTALLED ON?
Right now the current model SMT can be installed in practically ANY vehicle
with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. Some cars may
not be able to benefit from Ignition tuning but fuel tuning is always
easy to do.
CAN
I INSTALL A TURBO ON MY N/A CAR AND TUNE IT?
Yes, the SMT can provide the additional fuel, and where applicable, retard
timing for boosted engines.
MY
N/A CAR WILL THROW A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT UNDER BOOST, WHY?
Some N/A cars ECUs turn on the "Check" light when they detect
boost and go into "safe mode". The SMT has a built in feature
to correct this.
WHAT
CAN BE PROGRAMMED WITH THE SMT?
The SMT is programmed three dimensionally for optimum results, using throttle
position, load sensor and RPMs it can be tuned for all engine conditions,
light load, full load or wide open throttle, etc.

I CONTROL VTEC WITH THE SMT?
Yes, the SMT has an activation feature that can be configured to do just
that, activate any given device either by RPM, TPS, Load or engine temperature.
This function can also be used to drive other variable timing devices
like Nitrous solenoids, shift light, etc., please be aware that there
is only 1 activation switch built into the unit, so if you must decide
what to use it on.
AFTER
I TUNE MY ENGINE ITS HARD TO START WHEN COLD, WHAT CAN I DO?
The SMT has an input for an intake temperature sensor (0-5V range). In
the software there is a scale where you can calibrate the amount or percentage
that the SMT adds or takes out fuel, allowying for better cold starts.
DOES
THE SOFTWARE RUN UNDER DOS OR WINDOWS?
The SMT software has a DOS version and a Windows version. The Windows
version can run on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP.
DOES
THE SMT HAVE DATALOGGING?
Yes. It has a datalogging and playback feature. You can view the values
it has recorded or you can use the playback feature that lets you visualise
all the parameters that occurred in real time.
HOW
CAN I VEW THE DATALOGGS?
The SMT creates a special file in which all the parameter values are stored,
once you create it you can import it into MS Excel so you can view and
even graph the resulted log.
DOES
THE SMT COME WITH BUILT IN MAPS?
Yes, the SMT comes preloaded with a base map for your car, to get you
started.
CAN
I SAVE WHAT I HAVE DONE ON MY LAPTOP?
Yes, all Tune Maps can be saved to the computer for future retreival and
reloading or for reference.
